Britney songwriters complain of Hyori “plagiarism”

from the Chosun Ilbo
“Representatives for the writers of the Britney Spears song “Do Something” have written to the producers of K-pop star Lee Hyo-lee saying “parts” of the title song in Lee’s latest album “Get ya” are plagiarized. While this is not the first time the Korean pop industry has been accused of pilfering, it is the first time the copyright holder has formally complained.”
Personally, I can’t understand why the “songwriters” would complain. I mean, Britney Spears’ music sucks! I would think they would be flattered that anyone would want to copy her music. To be fair, Hyori’s music sucks too. Let’s be honest. Excluding the teen-age girl market, the reason for Britney and Hyori’s popularity is not because of the quality of their music. It’s because of the way they shake it on stage. Take that away and you’ve got nothing. Lighten up Britney. Do you really want to deny us this? (Note: Turn the sound down.)

Their music sucks heh? Go make one and come back. These two artists are very talented and have proven the public that they are very talented. Of course that is your opinion… and shaking on the stage is something that enhances the art of music and dancing.

To jae kim…You really should have left out “go make one and come back.” I’m assuming you mean “go write a song and come back” or something of that nature. I know you were kinda goin for an “in yo face bitch” type of statement with that but both Spears and Lee Hyo-ri do not write their songs so it falls a little flat. They are singer/dancers not singer/songwriters. Nothin wrong with that…I compose songs for singers who can’t write or play instruments and I definitely don’t look down on anybody for that. Different strokes for different folks. However, I don’t know if I would go so far as to call Spears a talented singer…you can tell that the engineers really abuse the hell out of antares autotune on her voice and really crank up the back ground singers when they can to hide her vocal shortcomings. Thats why she lip syncs live even when shes doing a ballad song with no dancing. And she’s kinda nasally.

hey hey hey!! no need to get so angry!!
honestly i agree both singers kind of suck (cause it’s not really my type of music), but i respect them both cause it’s their style in entertainment.
i also agree that britney should be flattered because hyori is one of the top entertainers in korea and whatever hyori copies, britneys moves and ideas will be reflected upon korea. and remeber korea copies everybody, whatever hot idea is out there, they’ll grasp it and sometimes even turn it better.
and can i say, they are both equally hot!!
oooooooooh and i want to say how crazy korea has changed since the last time i paid attention to their music and stuff… girls have become more sexual on the way they move and the clothes they wear, for the most it’s pretty hot but sometimes it looks like they’re trying to hard. but still, it’s hot.

hyori IS talented. she’s able to entertain us with her music and dancing. to me, to be able to do that requires talent already. lets just say if she “SUCKS”, then why is she so successful and famous? i’m not ONLY talking about her singing here, i’m talking about HYORI AS A WHOLE is awesome. she wouldn’t be successful without her dancing skills, she wouldn’t be successful without her singing, she wouldn’t be as successful without her looks, all of them TOGETHER, makes her successful and famous. she’s able to entertain the crowd.

“whatever hyori copies”
“and remeber korea copies everybody”
No matter how many times I see this exact form of justifying plagiarism (and what a poor form of justification it is), it always makes me laugh.
“Go make one and come back.”
Please grow up and come back. The “you do better” argument is extremely childish.

[...] (?) scholarly work is directly plagiarized. Hell, Hyori isn’t the only pop star to be accused of ripping off foreign pop songs. (Though, with pop music, everything’s a ripoff of something else, so I’m less [...]
